Do you wake up every morning feeling lethargic or under the weather? Perhaps you are getting older and starting to notice a few more aches and pains than you used to. Maybe you feel constantly stressed or have medical conditions that are getting you down.

Whatever the situation, there are several things you can do that will help to make you feel and look great.

Here are 5 easy ways to improve your overall health and wellbeing.

Are you getting enough sleep?

When we sleep, the blood supply to our muscles increases, which results in our bodies getting extra nutrients and oxygen. In turn, this promotes the regeneration of healthy cells as well as rejuvenation of tissue and muscle.

A typical adult should get at least 7 hours of uninterrupted sleep per night, so if you are getting less than that, it’s something you should try to remedy. There are various ways to improve your sleep, such as reducing caffeine intake, minimizing the time spent on phones and other technology, or even just buying a new mattress.

Once you develop and new and improved sleeping pattern, you might be shocked at how much better it makes you feel, both mentally as well as physically.

Employ a health and wellbeing coach

When you feel like you are stuck in a rut, making changes can be hard to do on your own. If you fall into this category, it may be beneficial to get someone to help you. It could be a friend or colleague or, even better, someone who specializes in nutrition, fitness, or mental health.

Not only can wellness and lifestyle professionals put together an individual program based on your needs, but they will also be there to offer support and encouragement when you most need it.

Due to the advancement of technology and the personalized benefits of bioinformatics, many can even tailor a program for you based on your DNA! Saliva collection kits are used to extract a sample of your saliva, which is then analyzed to understand how your body processes a range of things, including carbohydrates and fats, or even paint a picture of how your body responds to environmental changes.

If it’s a service you think you might benefit from, find out what is available to you locally and start the ball rolling. Most health and wellbeing professionals will offer help tailored to suit your goals as well as your budget.

Develop healthy and nutritious eating habits

The phrase “you are what you eat” should never be disregarded. If you are constantly tired or sluggish despite sleeping well or find it hard to focus, it may be caused by a lack of nutrition. You may believe you follow a reasonably healthy diet but, when you analyze what you are eating, it may be an entirely different story.

As a nation, we have become somewhat obsessed with counting calories, but it’s worth noting that low calorie does not necessarily mean healthy. Many so-called healthy products have an abundance of sugar, artificial sweeteners, and other ingredients which are not remotely good for you. Instead of taking products, packaging, and advertising at face value, start reading labels and nutritional information

Whole foods will always be better for you than processed so, where possible, keep packaged foods to a minimum and eat a rainbow of fruit and vegetables every day.

Keep stress to a minimum

We should never underestimate the impact that stress can have on our bodies. If you find yourself constantly feeling this way, you must take steps to change it. Stress can be caused by a multitude of things, so the first step to take is to figure out the root of the problem.

Are you snowed under at work and feel like there is no light at the end of the tunnel? If that’s the case, establish whether it would be possible to reduce your hours or employ additional staff to lighten the burden. Many people find themselves in toxic relationships and don’t feel like there is a way out. If that sums up your situation, talk to your partner or, if the situation is extreme, why not consider marriage counseling?

Stress can increase your blood pressure, put a burden on your mental health, and is known to cause a range of illnesses, so if it’s causing you ongoing distress, you must make positive changes to improve the situation.

A good skincare routine

Staying hydrated and eating a healthy diet are two of the best ways to promote good, clear skin, but a good daily skincare routine is also beneficial. Start by cleansing and toning your face each morning, followed by a decent moisturizer and under-eye cream. It’s worth purchasing a moisturizer with an SPF incorporated but, if your favorite cream doesn’t have it, then wait half an hour and apply sunscreen separately. It will help to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful rays, which can not only cause cell damage but can cause premature aging.

Applying an exfoliator once or twice a week will help to get rid of dead skin cells, unclog pores, and will leave your skin with a natural healthy glow. Some exfoliators can be harsh on sensitive areas, so if this is an issue for you, one which contains micro-exfoliation particles may be more suited to your skin.

If your budget allows, it’s worth having a professional facial once every month or so. Salons have access to products and treatments that you may not otherwise be able to find, so although it’s a bit more expensive, you will probably see a noticeable difference in your skin.

Conclusion

Improving your health and wellbeing doesn’t have to be a chore. When we look good, we feel good, and when we feel good, we are more inclined to stick with a routine.

Small changes can make a big difference, so start making changes that are easy to implement, and you may find that it spurs you to give your life a complete overhaul.
