What is Road marking? A road marking is the process of using devices or raw materials to draw boundaries on the Road to make an area for vehicle parking, separation of two paths from each other, and assigning zebra crossing marks for facilitating people traveling on foot. A rich quality chlorinated rubber pigment is used for drawing layers of lines on the Road to make them visible and is a method of signaling the travelers.

What are the advantages of Road marking?

Applying a road marking to the Road has a lot of advantages which are discussed as follows:

  • They are water-resistant and are not easily washed away by rains or showers. They have a long lifespan due to the rich materials used in the production, and the chances of degradation and fading are much low. Markings are carried out by different colors and patterns that have specific indications. Drivers driving can observe the signs and then move on the road.
  • Road markings can brighten during nighttime to simplify direction choosing and serve as a guide to the driver of the vehicle. People can spot these markings from far away as they draw close to it. This helps in preventing accidents and damages. 
  • These markings dry quickly and frequently after applying. There are no strenuous efforts on the applier of the markings. 
  •  Markings serve as a source of information and alert signal for the drivers on the highway. They are the best way of ensuring safe road practices which a single individual cannot communicate at a particular time.
  • When appropriate markings are made, every automobile is assigned its parking lot. It serves as a way to better organize vehicles in the parking areas. There are dents, damages, and scratches on the car without it. So, parking lots need to be designed and redesigned to help them retain their characteristic.

Types of road markings: 

Road markings are a grand conception of controlling the traffic on the roads. As such, types of roads markings are given as follows:  

  • Longitudinal Markings transverse Markings 
  • Hazard Markings
  • Arrow Markings
  • Block Markings 
  1. Longitudinal Markings 

The purpose of these Markings is to divide a road into two sides. There is a long broad line running between the roads to facilitate division and prevent the collision of two vehicles with each other. The road marking of this type also comes in yellow color and shines at night.

  1. Transverse Markings 

These are used along with the carriageway to control. The traffic with broken lines serves to give way making or stop marking.

  1. Hazard Marking 

This helps assist during hazardous situations and merge the traffic or prevent them from going ahead of dangerous situations. A sign accompanies these. 

  1. Arrow Marking

It helps in assisting the driver during the time of making decisions for the right turns. It has arrows expanded to easily facilitate the driver and assure that the route to be taken is safe from damages.

  1. Block Marking 

These are of two types:

The first one helps pedestrians safely cross the road and is known as zebra crossing. These are for high traffic areas and signal points for the disciplined movement of vehicles and people. 

The second one consists of triangles that alert speed breakers to slow down their speed to a standard acceptable level. As explained in the previous paragraph, they are accompanied by a sign and differentiate themselves from the longitudinal markings.
