- Do a routine maintenance checkup.
Perform a regular checkup of your inverter and battery. It won’t take too much time, and therefore, we suggest that you check them once every 3 months. Some of the things you need to check are – battery terminals, water level, and wiring. In case you think they require a clean-up or a top-up, you have to do the needful.
For example, if there is rust or corrosion near the battery terminals then you should use hot water, baking soda and brush to clean up the terminals. Similarly, if the water level is low then you need to top it up with distilled water. Do not use tap water or mineral water
- Regularly discharge and recharge your inverter battery.
If you live in an area where power cuts are not very frequent then you need to completely discharge and recharge your battery, once every month. The process will not just help you ensure that your inverter and battery are working properly, but it will also help you increase the life of your battery.
- Make sure the UPS inverter and battery are well ventilated.
The inverter battery tends to heat up during operation and charging, and therefore, they should be placed in an area where there is proper ventilation. We have observed that initially people do place their inverter and battery in a well ventilated area, but as time passes they unknowingly stack up other stuff in that area. This usually happens when people place their inverter and battery in a storage room or utility room and with the passage of time as they keep adding unused household items to that room, the inverter and battery are not left with enough ventilation space. It is therefore recommended that you should perform a regular check to ensure your inverter and battery are well ventilated.
- Make sure the vents are left open.
Like we just mentioned, the inverter and battery need proper ventilation. Keeping the vents open is also a part of ensuring proper ventilation. Make sure the vents are open and they are dust free. Remember – A blocked vent can lead to accumulation of hydrogen gas, which in turn can cause your battery to heat up and burst.
- Don’t use RO or tap water.
If the water levels are low and your inverter battery needs a top-up, only use distilled water. Make sure you don’t use tap or RO water because it might contain impurities or minerals that can cause damage to your inverter battery.
- Keep your battery and inverter far from inflammable objects.
Make sure there are no inflammable objects placed near your inverter and battery, or else it can cause fire. Also, make sure the inverter and battery are placed in a safe place, far from the reach of children.
